Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

Now don’t hate me, you Potter die-hards out there.
But I plan to jump ahead and watch all the movies —even though I haven’t read any of the books (cept a couple chapters of the first one).
I already saw Soceror’s Stone years ago (in the theatre? I don’t remember) and rewatched it recently with my daughter a month ago or so.
Now I’ve got the Chamber of Secrets (DVD) from the library, and that’s next up to watch.

Might be simpler if we put our house names in the “Location” spot instead. Yes?

And that’s why you get paid the big bucks

Harry Potter is almost as dumb as Twitter, and twice as predictable
but I still read them.
Are the movies really any good? I havent seen any of them.

Boxy, your positive energy is like a new fallen ray of sunshine, drifting down on an early summer’s morn and rolling carefree and ebulliently into our souls.

Can we get Boxy’s changed to Dementor, Location: Azkaban, and an update to his avatar. :stuck_out_tongue:

My name is Solai, and I am a Potterhead.

Much. Do that.

I try :):)

Done, done, and done! I’m surprised there aren’t more Ravenclawers given how smart and geeky most everyone on the forum is!

My orginal plan was to wait till after all the movies came out to read the books, but then I saw this
spoiler t-shirt
and figured that I was going to have to read 'em quick if there was going to be any surprise.

I read Chamber of Secrets in the Saturday afternoon after Deathly Hallows was released. Order of the Phoenix, both the book and the movie, is my absolute favorite.

I’m doing a complete saga re-read I kicked off maybe 6-8 weeks ago and am now halfway through Half-Blood Prince. I’d only read each book once, and never straight through like this, so it’s interesting how much JKR really had to put together to make the books work like they do. There’s really not any retconning I can nail down for sure.

I’m not big into Transformers (partially because Volkswagen craps on my childhood), so I haven’t been listening to podcasts since Star Trek XI, but I am fully on board with this next one. Should be done with HBP soon, going to do a movie re-watch with Mrs. Jarathen, and then a movie that early buzz is positive on, moreso than I expected.

But many people think being a Sylverine…Sylver…um…snake is fun. And other people like being part of “the heroes” team.

But yes. Only us true geeks admit to being Ravenclaw (and let’s face it, Luna is more hardcore and badass than anyone will admit to-she’s been in HOW MANY major engagements of the war and WALKED away afterwards?)

Wait, so Voldemort is already dead? I thot he was Harry’s father.

And Hermione is Keyser Soze? Whoda thunk it?

…and she’s Harry’s sister living in The Hatch…

Soylent Green is made of Weasley!

Hmmm, do I taste a hint of ginger in my Soylent Green?

My new sigy was inspired by Boxytheboxed. I call it:
“positive energy like a new fallen ray of sunshine, drifting down on an early summer’s morn and rolling carefree and ebulliently into our souls.”
I’m a bit of a muggle when it comes to Harry Potter, but I’m looking forward to the arc.

Given your sig…

If it makes you feel more comfy, I havne’t read any of the books. My group of friends are big Potterheads & took me to all the previous movies. I enjoyed them very much. I also enjoyed listening to their discussions afterwards of the things they left out from the books.

My Uncle gave me the first Harry Potter book several Christmases ago. I couldn’t get into it. It is written for kids & to me it showed that they were the target audience. Many people are more forgiving & patient with that type of style than I am. I couldn’t get past it.

Thanks for that. Glad to hear I’m not alone in my stance. That’s good to know that you were able to enjoy the Potter movies even though you didn’t read the books. I’m pretty particular about the books I read, and for one thing I really lean toward books that transport you to another world or other reality (sometimes that can be historical fiction because the past is like another reality). When I say I’m particular, I don’t mean that in a “holier than thou” kinda way. I just like certain genres and types of stories.
The fact the Harry Potter is set in kinda our time and our world, and Harry goes off has adventures in a hidden world of Hogwarts —I guess that kinda ruins it for me. In contrast, Lord of the Rings for example is set in a whole other reality. Also maybe the fact that the central character in HP is a kid is a tough one for me to get over. Anyway, who knows, maybe if I gave the books another try they’d catch me, but I feel a big hurdle there.
