GWC Podcast #193

I am, in fact, 20 lol

Not for long, though, I suspect.

There some interesting parallels and connections going on here  I’ve been watching Flash Forward, which has introduced me to Sci Fi author Robert J. Sawyer. As I read his short story anthology, “Identity Theft,” I came across “Flashes.” This story asks the question of whether an Encyclopaedia Galactica would have an adverse effect on society.

Sagan is indirectly villianized in this quirky little story.

I’m not saying I agree with the premise, but it is an interesting twist on what can happen with too much knowledge too soon.

I sent a private message to audra. She kindy informed me she’s never done a game voice over. The voice in the game sounds exactly like her.I need to post an audio clip of this game voice.I’m sure you’d all agree. Her voice makes melt:o,so i called her my queen in the message(i might have over done it,but she seemed very flattered). She teaches 17-20 yr olds i heard,so i’m probaly wrong thinking her young(20 or so).I think she’s closer to 30.
Thanks for replying audra,your a sweetheart.

I just wanted to share something with the crew because it was so great and it’s because of you guys. I had shared ‘A Glorious Dawn’ with a friend of mine and I was telling her about the great Carl Sagan arc you guys did. That night she was listening to ‘A Glorious Dawn’ on the symphony of science website and her daughter (who is 10) got really interested in it. They watched the youtube video’s and downloaded the podcasts so they could listen to them in the car. She then asked her mom if she could get SETI@home on her laptop, and she wanted the words to ‘A Glorious Dawn’ printed out so that she could put it on her bedroom wall.

Hi all,

I’ve just finished the Cosmos arc podcasts, and want to say thank you so much! This last podcast with Ann Druyan and Nick Sagan was simply wonderful. I first saw Cosmos on PBS when I was about 8 years old, and was fascinated by it. My Mom and I watched it together, and I remember being completely enthralled. At the time, Carl Sagan (in his corduroy jacket with elbow patches) was quite the dashing figure to me! :o

Over the years I have seen bits and pieces of various episodes of Cosmos, but am happy it is now available on Hulu. My son is 8, and I hope by showing the series to him he will be inspired as well. It really is a shame that space exploration is not in the forefront of news these days. I remember when the Space Shuttle would take off in the early 80’s, we would watch it on TV, and it was quite an event. Over the years though, we stopped watching the launches. It seems now the only time NASA gets on the news is when something bad happens. (BTW, if anyone is ever in the Houston area, you should go and visit NASA- it’s a great experience.)

The makers of the “A gorious dawn” have made a sequel.I don’t think it’s quite as good as the first, but still worth watching.
