Just dropping by to thank you for the opportunity to geek out on your show. I also very much enjoyed the rest of the episode, and your discussion after our segment was great.
Thanks Jon! We appreciate your time, and we had a blast!

LOL!
By the way, Audra, on the podcast Chuck mentioned that on Twitter he was pleased to hear someone say that their kid asked “When can I watch more Cosmos?”.
And you wanted to know if that was me who said that.
The answer is no, as much I as wish my kids would say that to me.
A couple months ago, I sat down with my 7 and 10 year old girls and said, “We’re gonna watch Cosmos, and it’s gonna be so cool.”
Well, unfortunately the 7 year really didn’t like it all and was upset cuz she really didn’t want to watch it. To be fair, it does open kinda slow —compared to what kids are used to these days. And, she probably wasn’t in the mood to watch it regardless.
Meanwhile, the 10 year old, who is quite interested in science, did sit through the whole first episode of Cosmos with me. I’d say say enjoyed it. But I can’t claim she was really “caught” by it. And I’ve since then asked if she wanted to watch more and haven’t got a “yes”. I’ll keep trying though. Personally, having rewatched the first two episodes and the two last episodes myself recently, my gut feeling it’s a bit above their heads. I guess if they were attracted to sci fi, space and that kind of stuff, it would draw them in–but that’s not really their cup of tea.
Ok, enough about my kids. Let’s talk about me.
I absolutely LOVE Cosmos more than I can express. I was in high school when it first aired on PBS, and I was really caught by it. I loved sci fi anyway —such as it was back them–, and space and space travel so it was a natural for me. Now, this was before VCRs of course, so we pretty much had to watch it when it aired.
I think on my next birthday (16 or 17?) my parents gave me Cosmos the Book as a present. And I swear,—not exaggerating—from that time and all the way through college, I kept Cosmos on my night-table beside my bed like some people keep a bible (mind you, I never kept a Bible on beside my bed like a Bible, but I digress.
Last week’s podcast you were talking about how great it would be to see Sagan live. And, that totally reminded me something that I’d forgotten: The I think I saw him speak at Harvard about 20 years ago. You probably wondering: "What do you mean “You think”!!? " I was in college at the time in Boston (not Harvard) and I vaguely remember talking the subway over to Harvard. Mind you, this was 20 years ago, so I really don’t have any recollection of the details. I know. I know. How could I forget? It’s Sagan!! But it was a long time ago. I’m gonna ask my Dad if he remembers my going to see Sagan at Harvard.
Anyway, I really am blown away by this Cosmos arc. As BSG fans, it’s not a stretch that you would be into Star Trek, Star Wars, Terminator etc. But to discover that Chuck and Sean were such be fans of something that I really thot only a select few (like me) had any affection for, that really blows me away.
On top of that, like some other arcs, it’s really cool Audra to get the viewpoint of someone like you who’s watching Cosmos for the 1st time.
And and top of all that, I’m really blown away that you and Chuck and Sean, not only enjoyed, respect and appreciate Cosmos, but you actually love it to the point where you get emotional about it.
Anyway, well, for someone who’s not been on the forum much at all for the past month, I’ve babbled on enough.
Thanks so much for experiencing Cosmos with us all. Very awesome.
I was able to see him when he came to Vancouver, Washington to speak at our local college many years ago. Even though I had seen portions of Cosmos on TV, I was still amazed that he was able to bring science alive and really kept me engaged during the lecture.
My only regret is that it was way before I started to carry a camera with me everywhere, so I was not able to get a picture with him. So if there is anyone else out there, I hope you treasure the chance you had to see him speak, the same way that I do.
Did anybody else catch the slingshot around the planet on the last episode of SG-U!? I heard the podcast after watching the show. Pretty ironic. I wonder if Voyager had a “Mathboy”?
Oh My God.
That interview with Sean’s parents was the funniest thing I’ve heard in a looonnng time. I knew I loved that kid for a reason. Evil Genius!
I just heard back from my mom and dad. They said they remember that I went to see Carl Sagan speak at Harvard. That’s all they remember…and I don’t remember much about it either. But, it was 20 years ago…and, being in college at the time, my brain was probably pretty much overtaxed by academic and social concerns.
Last couple podcasts, I’ve been bummed when they’re over, 'cuz I didn’t want 'em to end. Great stuff, all.
Okay people…and you Trek Tarts in particular.
We have a puzzle we need to solve.
We know that Sean was conceived with a Star Trek TOS episode playing in the background. And we know it was a episode when Kirk was sleeve-less.
Three possibilities come to mind:
-
Mirror, Mirror (shown above)
-
Bread & Circuses
-
The Paradise Syndrome
-
A Private Little War
Any others? (Remember, we’re talking sleeveless, not shirt-less or ripped-shirted Kirk.)
Maybe someone less lazy than I could post a pole?
I almsot forgot! One of my favorite podcasts for when I only have a few minutes is the Howstuffworks.com “Stuff you missed in history class” podcast. It’s so cool to get the larger picture on stories we thought we knew so well.
I’m guessing that one. Sean’s parents were getting bad.
(Mind bleach is in the top left cabinet, Sean.)
Chuck needs to do a follow up interview.
“Is this shows picture the episode you watched while conceiving your son?”
Poor Sean.
And, when will the full Lost Minutes be released?
Hey Chuck was the first part of the interview in your car video? You said something like “As you can see all the dog stuff”.
Anyway I’d definitely be interested in having Origin of Sean snippets sprinkled into future casts if at all possible
Nope. I was verbalizing what I saw to give you an idea of what the place is like.
Great cast! Mondo smileage!
drunken sob I love you guys!
You have great signatures!
Im sorry but this is hysterical.
Ohh, I see an idea for a Juandrew song brewin’.
Oh Daaavid…
To drag the conversation in the gutter for a minute, it’s mildly ironic that the alternative pronunciation of “ur-anus” is “urine-us.” Huh, huh, huh.
I’m just listening to 191, and got my first shout-out on GWC for the SGU Michael Shanks instruction videos.
It’s great that you also cover some news in this podcast. And if you haven’t watched the latest Dollhouse episode yet: DOOO IT!! DO IT!! DOOO IT!! DO IT!! DOOO IT!! DO IT!!
