Resurrection is superior IMHO to Alienzzzzzzz, and it’s written by Joss, for God’s sake
yeah, that’s what I was going for. We use it all the time here, and it’s morphed to what I put there- lol! I guess it’s an in - in joke! lol!
Thanks on the pic! I have been very fortunate in my friends!
Thanks for the info! El riesgo was the part I couldn’t catch during our movie-watch.
Yes, we did! Lol - we were watching and I was like, “Hey, it’s Dennis the Donut Boy!”
Awesome! It’s always cool to see that your observations really are founded on real artistic connections.
Yeah, I really need to go back and watch the commentary. I found Ripley’s motivation in going back in the second movie a little confusing, but I was okay accepting something like revenge/facing fears. Good to know they were thinking so much about it too!
Yes, yes, yes I know, I wish we were doing it too. Maybe another time?
Hey guys, not my first time on this forum. I was once known as Gaeta’s Leg. Sadly, I thought it was time to hang that name up, and hell, I just couldn’t log on with that name anymore. Anyway, here I is, reborn as eldiablito. Which actually, I normally go by on forums anyway. Been listening to GWC since BSG S 4.0 began, and quickly came to love the GWC trio.
Anyway, to jump right in. I caught up on the Alien and Aliens podcast today. Both great shows! Aliens was one of the first sci-fi horror movies I went out of my way to see in the theaters. I actually saw it as a double feature with David Cronenberg’s The Fly. I was scarred for life afterwards. I too associated scary things with Sigourney Weaver, as Audra brought up. Alien, scared the hell out of me as a kid. Looking at it now, I marvel at the film. It’s so well made, so cold, and yet one of the greatest flicks ever. As for Aliens, well, James Cameron brought the series to a whole new level of kick ass, sorry barb, and became one of my all time favorite films of the 80’s.
Aliens has many things I love in it. The ships, the weaponry, and some really memorable characters. Vasquez though, always remains my favorite. (With Hudson of course as a close favorite!) I didn’t catch some of her dialogue when I first saw the movie, but, as I watched it over and over again, I finally caught the line she says to Drake about Ripley. “Ay, who’s Snow White?” “Que bonita eh?”.
Anyway, I know the Slurm was brought up during the show, but, there was also a hilarious episode of Invader Zim that had references to this movie. The episode is titled, Lice, and is definitely one to catch, if you haven’t seen it already.
Welcome back, eldiablito.
Thanks Pike, love the avatar!
Oh, and I did forget to mention how much I love the Special Extended version of Aliens. As it is, it definitely adds even more heart to the whole story. For those of you who haven’t seen it, what I write next is SPOILERRIFIC: The added scenes in the extended edition involving the fate of Ripley’s daughter really complimented the film. It made Ripley’s and Newt’s relationship that much more important to me, and I’m sure to many others. Which is why Alien 3 just hurts so damn much from the get go, but, more on that when I get to that thread!
One of my all-time favorite movies. I would’ve listened and posted sooner but I was away at GenCon.
I once wrote a thread on my old EQ guild forum about the actors of Aliens and all the movies they had appeared in together. I can’t remember most of it now, but here’s a couple:
Bill Paxton, Lance Henrikson and Michael Biehn were all in Terminator.
Bill Paxton, Lance Henrikson and Jenette Goldstein were all in Near Dark.
Bill Paxton and Michael Biehn were in Lords of Discipline.
Bill Paxton and Michael Biehn were in Navy Seals.
Bill Paxton and Michael Biehn were in Tombstone.
Jenette Goldstein and Mark Rolston (Drake) were in Lethal Weapon 2.
As for Jenette Goldstein, I read a long time ago that she showed up to audition for Aliens believing that it was going to be a movie about immigrants, but Cameron liked her so much, he used her.
Oh, and as far as Burke getting “implanted” … in the novelization by Alan Dean Foster, there were a couple of scenes that were not in the movie. Most of these showed up in the director’s cut, so I think they were all in the original script. This includes: Ripley’s digital forest bench where she finds out about her daughter, the scene where Newt’s parents find the original ship, and all the stuff with the sentry guns. However, there was one part in the novelization that doesn’t seem to have been filmed, so I’m not sure if Foster made it up or if it was cut from the script pre-filming. There was a scene where Ripley was going back for Newt and she comes across Burke, cocooned and obviously “implanted.” He asks her to shoot him. She instead just gives him one of the grenades and then leaves.
Sean SINGS!!!
I am not sure if anyone mentioned this earlier but the picture of Ripley’s daughter, is actually a pixelated photo of Weaver’s grandmother.
re: learning spanish with the novelas.
It can be done, but be sure you’re careful about the slang!
Holy thread resurrection, Batman! I’m catching up on some podcasts I missed, and I wish I had heard the Aliens one sooner! I wanted to share a costume I made a few years ago:
More pics here:

Just wanted to establish that I’m a huge nerd as soon as possible.
My goodness, that’s a hell of an entrance to a forum!! Welcome aboard.
Wow.
Welcome aboard. And wow.
Thanks for the welcomes, guys! It’s true, y’all really ARE the nicest community around.
Here’s a vid if me walking: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6819944270491169097
Last year, I did the alien queen as a costume, I’ll see if I can dig up a couple pics.
Mission. Accomplished.
Holy frak! Nice work TS! And welcome to the forum. That is one awesome costume.
Here’s a couple daylight pics of the queen costume. It looks much more menacing on dark streets, and a couple parents asked me to lift up my mask and show the kids that I was a person in a costume.
I successfully fought the urge to just attack the kids and scar them for life, so, I’ve got that going for me.
The tail was about 7 feet long and articulated, not that you can see it too well in the shot, but it would swish back and forth. I made the skin using spray to cover cardboard ‘plates’ that were hooked to my arms and legs with elastic, then painted. The head used a plastic skull as the base, then I build backwards from there (foam, fiberglass, etc) and was mounted to a helmet so it could turn quickly.
Great podcast arc with the Aliens stuff, thanks! I really enjoyed it, and love the cast. I’ve been listening for a while, just got a little behind here and had never gotten around to the forums before, but I had to check in and say Howdy! considering the theme.
Be seeing you… </Bester forehead gesture>
I wish I had my own lifter! I dont think it would fit through the doors of my office building but I could always pry em apart. Cool costumes!
Awesome costume!
Where’d ya hide all the eggs?
I could tell you, but this is a family friendly forum.
