LOL! The Harry Potter movies are the only ones that I’ve noticed such a teenage concentration (though to be fair, there were many summer blockbusters that premiered when I was out of the country. ROTK in South America was kind of awesome, because there were still people dressed up and making music and stuff)
That’s awesome! Don’t miss Clear Skies 2, which is my personal favorite. Clear Skies is good, but the second one really takes it up a notch in terms of story-telling, camera work, and pretty much everything else.
(Bonus: Ian Chisholm is joining us on the podcast next week. )
Fantastic!!! i watched both movies this weekend and they are awesome! Looking forward to the interview.
Just watched Clear Skies 1 + 2. Really liked it. Looking forward to the podcast.
Loved the “Double fee” line.
I just finished re-listening to the audiobook over the weekend and was surprised at how different a feeling I got for Snape than when i originally read the book. In the first reading I had the impression that Snape was still in league with Dumbledore. When I listened to the book the impression I got was that Snape really was with Voldy. In the movie, however, Snape was given a much more benevolent representation. He didn’t punish Harry for being late to school or after the fight with Draco Malfoy in the restroom. In the book, Harry was frozen in place under the invisibility cloak when Dumbledore was killed while in the movie Harry was exposed and Snape gave him a pass, simply telling him to be quiet. Snape was also much less nasty when he told Harry he was the HBP, protecting him from Bellatrix more than just telling her to leave him for Voldemort.
The impression that I got from the movie was that Snape was protecting Harry as much as he was protecting Draco.
Shortly after the final Harry Potter movie, Draco Malfoy and Tom Riddle form Spandau Ballet: http://tinyurl.com/cu26fm
Finally saw the movie. Some parts of it look exactly like I’d envisioned, except in my mind, they looked like they would with my glasses off. And in the movie, they’re full resolution.
ps. Bellatrix Lestrange is hot. Crazy-hot.

I finally got around to downloading the Swish and Flick album from iTunes, and it’s not just the two songs that you all played, the whole album is teriffic. Thanks for playing them on the podcast.
I can definitely see that, but I can also see why they wouldn’t care. They, after all, already had wands; why would they care if anyone else could get any? Since I haven’t read the books, I can only base my understanding on what’s in the movies, so I have to admit that I can’t really fathom the true motivations of the majority of the Death Eaters. It seems clear, though, that Voldemort’s goals revolved around accumulating power for himself. How better to accomplish that than to prevent anyone else from doing so?
My point exactly. Couldn’t – and didn’t – have said it better myself.
FYI, there are frak parties tonight for both movies, starting @ 10e/7p.
Amazing how much I forgot since I first burned through the book! Of course Snape was protecting Harry.
I usually like to wait a while before revisiting a book. Glad I took the time to revisit both books 6 & 7.
Has anyone else seen this piece in the Times about drinking and Harry Potter? As the podcast was noting that the drinking in the movie was well-done, moderated, and not ridiculous-ruining-their-lives-forever-prohibition-y, well, this lady disagrees. I think she’s wrong, but I thought I’d throw it out there for commentary.
I think the issue of alcohol is far too complex to wag a finger at the movie over, especially because the movie doesn’t really stick on it much\ before moving on to much bigger things.
Also, while I do believe Butterbeer has a slight amount of alcohol, I thought Hermione was tipsy because Slughorn spilled, though I could be mistaken.
In DH everyone takes a shot of firewhisky. Wonder if that’ll make the film.
Every time Voldemort shows up and wands auto-target, Harry has to do a shot!
I just remind myself that in Europe alcohol is viewed and treated very differently than here in the ‘States’, or as in this case,… ‘Across the Pond’.
Besides,… he is not 11 anymore now is he???
And after facing down DeathEaters and Voldomort, Giant Spiders and a Basilisk, and dealing with FRAKin Draco and his inbred family. I would need a drink!
