Actually, the US has invaded Canada a bunch of times (Revolution, 1812, Fenian Raids.) I’m guessing it’s the Zambonies that fended us off.
I’m with ya.
That electric plug thingy probably generates a force field of some kind.
Abrams tanks shoot armor-piercing shells, but there’s no way such shells could penetrate the Zamboni’s force field.
And if it’s a battle on an ice-covered surface? Faaaget about it.
Yeah, the treads could never get traction.
Is that what it is? I thot the Zamboni had just woken up.
We’re gonna need a bigger tank.

ROTFLMsBO!!!
Poor judgement on my part reading that whilst drinking a Sprite. Spit-take was explosive.
It’s not just that. Ever been to a hockey game?
Between periods, tanks aren’t even ALLOWED on the ice.
Zambonis have complete ice-superiority during that time, and are therefore invulnerable to attack.
Did anyone catch the clip on the MTV Movie Awards? It was pretty awesome!!! I have an odd theory about The Fallen that I want to run by you folks. In the trailer, it shows Sam handling what looks like a sliver of Energon cube or something. He proceeds to trip out and carve stuff in what I assume is Autobot language. OK, I think he’s becoming some sort of human/Autobot thing, or he’ll somehow have a link with them, or some sort of power. I really have NO idea specifically, just a theory. Am I thinking about this too much?
God I can’t wait for this movie.
A Zamboni power play?
Sean…you should see if “Bumblebee” is taken:
Man legally changes his name to Megatron
EDIT: read the comments below the article, they are priceless.
Okay Sean and everyone else, you guys are going to have to help me out. I watched the '07 movie the other day despite being a kid of the '80s and previously watching like 15 minutes of Transformers (I guess it is more of a thing boys were in to). But while I liked the concept behind the Transformers and the sparks from the big cube thing that make the Transformers who they are (and thank you for the podcast explanation of those, BTW) I just didn’t dig the plot. For example:
A good chunk of the plot just involved keeping the transformers away from the guy’s parents and other people to continue the government conspiracy and find a pair of glasses. If five giant car/truck size robots are in the backyard of some house stomping around and talking, what’s the point of telling them to keep quiet so your parents can’t hear them – I’m sure the other neighbors have already been freaked out by the huge metal monster things enough to call 911 and blow their cover. And it’s not as if they didn’t have a huge epic fight later in the movie all over downtown LA so by that point, everyone pretty much knows of the transformers existence.
The other thing that bugged me about it was how it followed pretty much every cliche of a teen movie. Like, boy gets bullied around at school by boy #2 with more muscles and attitude issues, who therefore has the hot girl (what, not a cheerleader in this one?) in the movie interested in him. Boy #2 treats girl bad, boy #1 gets car (because if you don’t have muscles, how else could you possibly attract a girl?), then offers girl ride. Girl eventually learns her lesson that dating a medium-toned non-sorrybarbhole being a muscular sorrybarbhole and boy and girl live happily ever after.
I’m really not trying to beat down unduly hard on your favorite franchise of all time. I’m just wondering whether the older movies and cartoons were this cheesy, or was the purpose behind the '07 movie just to bring the Transformers from animation to live action with CGI Transformers?
Edit: fixed spoiler tags
Makes me think of something Ron Moore said on his commentary for the Caprica pilot. He said something like “CGI technology has gotten so good now that you don’t even think it’s CGI anymore.”
That Transformers preview is further proof that that’s so.
Chuck & Sean:
I am curious as to which corporations you are part of in EVE, or which areas you tend to operate in. I decided to get out of the BoB vs. Everyone clusterfrak and am looking to start fresh again and am trying to look for new operating climates.
And if you ever feel like fleet-mining, let me know. I promise I won’t try to blow up any planets in the process.
I was thinking something along a similar line. Like maybe since the allspark was mostly destroyed, that maybe this last piece somehow managed to keep all the information from the allspark but needed to off load it since its so much. And what better way to put all the information it contains into the most advanced computer on the planet: A human brain. That’s my theory every since that first trailer when it looked like when he touched it something got uploaded to his brain. And in a later clip he says that Megatron wants what’s in his brain and what did Megatron want in the first movie, the allspark.
Good to know I wasn’t completely insane with that theory.
ToplessRobothas an article talking about the Box Set for Transformers TV show…
16 discs with all 98 G1 episodes. $140 not to bad…
Not sure if anybody has mentioned it yet (because I am too lazy to read throught the thread Sorry).
GO BOTS???
Came out around the same time as Transformers and were basically a poor mans Autobot. They also had their own movie which were a tie in with the Rock Lords - Yep you guessed it, Rocks that turned into Robots! Genius! Could be that this was only a UK thing.

In fairness thiskinda sums it up nice parody from College Humour

So, you’re saying it’s Chuck with robots?
he has the INTERSECT!
Man, I wish I could remember more about Transformers than vague childhood memories. I keep meaning to rewatch the 1986 movie and haven’t gotten around to it.
Oh, early in the podcast, there was the discussion about Kurzweil and the evolution of humans into cyborgs. First off, there’s a great concept album by Our Lady Peace inspired by Kurzweil called “Spiritual Machines,” which is more or less trying to describe biological life to a robot. Secondly, there’s some sociologist out there (I can’t remember her name, I’d have to go back digging through my old notes) who started calling people who use any sort of technology cyborgs. Glasses to see with, pencils to communicate with, etc. You really can make the argument that humanity has been artificially augmenting itself for thousands of years, and the augmentations have been improving and evolving along with us
