GWC Podcast #127

Strange Days is a great film but Sean already found the reference.

‘Brainstorm’ directed by Douglas Trumbull

It also had Kai Winn in it!! She’s the one who died and recorded her death.

It was also Natalie Wood’s last film before she tragically drown.

There was another film released around the same time called ‘Dreamscape’ with Dennis Quaid in the lead. It was about psychic warfare. Pretty cool stuff.

Nope. It was definitely Brainstorm. It was on the tip of my tongue, too, but neither of us could identify it without a post-'cast trip to IMDB.

Ok Cool. I tried to skim thru the posts but my face isnt working today. If you havnt seen it yet you should check out Strange Days It has alot of the same ideas. Recording people thoughts and playing them back. Including havng sex and then changing the perspective. Also they had death VR’s called Black Jack. Which was really a snuff film but from the perspective of the person who died. One of the scary point in this movie is a dude is going around killing girls but the killer is making the girls watch their deaths, as they are dying, from his Pov and his emotion.

No trips to anywhere for you mister. Especially into the cold, vast, internet frontier. You’ll catch your death. Now get back in that room and bundle yourself up this instant. The last thing we need is another virus on the web.

Hope you’re feeling better Chuck.

Wow, that is awesome! I gotta go with the others - cool parenting AND grandparenting. My dad liked sci-fi and had a few books but neither of parents read a lot. Luckily I discovered all these books collecting dust and put them to good use.

frakkintalos: I knew you and I were of one mind. Lol!

And of course…welcome to the forum, steampunk_dude and sporkman!

P.S. Does anyone know more about that story I was trying to tell about Tiresius the prophet?

It sounded familiar but I’m no expert. Here’s what Encyclopedia Mythica has to say about it:

Tiresias
by James Hunter
Tiresias was the son of Everes and the nymph Chariclo; he was a blind prophet, the most famous soothsayer of ancient Greece.
The most famous account of the origin of his blindness and his prophetic talent is as follows. When Tiresias was walking in the woods one day, he came upon two great serpents copulating; he struck them with his staff, and was thereupon transformed into a woman. Seven years later, she/he passed by the same place and came upon the same two serpents copulating; she/he struck them again with the staff and was turned back into a man. Some time later, Zeus and Hera were arguing over who had more pleasure in sex, the man or the woman: Zeus said it was the woman, while Hera claimed men got more pleasure from the act. To settle the argument, they consulted Tiresias, since he had experienced life as both sexes, and Tiresias sided with Zeus. In her anger, Hera struck Tiresias blind. Since Zeus could not undo the act of another deity, he gave Tiresias the gift of prophecy in compensation.

Another account says that Tiresias accidentally saw Athena naked, and she covered his eyes with her hands, thus rendering him blind. When Tiresias’ mother Chariclo asked Athena to restore her son’s sight, the goddess could not undo her own action but gave him the gift of prophecy as compensation.

There are many tales about individual prophecies of Tiresias: he predicted the manner of Narcissus’ death; he tried to warn Oedipus of the rashness of that king’s inquiries about his parents; he predicted that the sacrifice of Menoeceus, son of Creon, would permit the forces of Eteocles to repulse the army of the Seven Against Thebes. Tiresias eventually died from drinking from the spring Tilphussa, but even after death his shade was able to offer valuable prophecy to the hero Odysseus.

Shatner has totally been there, done that in the last episode of Star Trek: The Orignal Series. http://www.startrek.com/startrek/view/library/episodes/TOS/detail/68818.html

Oh, now I remember this movie…wasn’t it a Fiennes flick? (Checking IMDB) Yeah, Ralph. Still reminds me of the X-Files episode “Mind’s Eye”, where a blind woman (the incredible Lily Taylor) can “see” through the eyes of a killer.

Verily, The Shat is a great prophet.

The Shat is totally the Kwisatz Haderach. He sees the future like Paul Atreides.

The episodes “Court Martial” and “The Menagerie” where just Shat practicing for eventual coming of Boston Legal.

I must’ve missed the part in “Court Martial” where Kirk’s penis alarm goes off

That happens in the bar, early on.

Saw it way back when… I agree good movie. I believe it was Natalie Wood’s last movie before she died.

No one listens to me. :frowning:

Welcome sporkman and Steampunk_dude.

Sorry 'talos, I responded before reading all the posts. I was just about to point out my echoing your words when you posted the above.

It’s that time of night. I’m being my normal whiny self.

BTW 'talos, Brainstorm also had Kai Winn in it.
Wait, I think I hear an echo again.
I think I need more coffee.

I’ve made this case before but I guess I’ll have to show proof. I don’t believe in coincidence. Seth MacFarlane must be a fan of the podcast.

He-man and Big Labowski mentioned in the same podcast
coincidence?
