GWC Podcast #120

Chuck is a sit-com about a regular guy who works at the local electronics store. On his birthday, he gets an encoded e-mail from a former college roomate (the guy who got him kicked out of college) and this e-mail dumps a ton sensitive information into his brain. The NSA and CIA each send an operative to protect him and the information in his head. They also have no qualms about using him for the info in his head. So all kinds of hijinks ensue when this regular guy with no training has to become a spy. It has Zachary Levi (as Chuck), Adam Baldwin (as the NSA Agent John Casey), and Yvonne Strahovski (as the CIA agent Sarah Walker).

And “Sorry Barb” harkens back to a call from Bkitty when she mentioned that she listened to the podcast while she works. She drives a school bus, and the kids noticed when the trio said “ass”. So now whenever anyone says or means “ass”, they say “Sorry Barb” (I think Sean started the apologizing). But it stuck. Bkitty vehemently denies being the official censor of the GWC, by the way.

It’s this show about a total sci-fi and computer geek who accidentally becomes a national intelligence asset and a spy. It’s a great show, on NBC here in America.

If the twits are any indication, Chuck’s been obsessed with it. As am I. If you don’t want to see the whole season, you can watch the 2-minute recap of the whole season on hulu, but I recommend that you don’t watch it… Actually watch the whole episodes, they are easily worth it!

Barb is forum name bkitty, who is a long-time active member here. She preferred that the Three don’t swear on the 'cast, because she apparently drives school buses for a living, and she’d like to listen to the 'casts while driving. When the Three (usually Sean) accidentally swore anyway on the 'casts, they would apologize after the fact to Barb. And it has transferred over to the forum as well.

It used to be that we’d say a swear word and apologize after the fact. (“Kiss my ass. Sorry Barb.”) Now some people are using the phrase “Sorry Barb” as a euphemism for swear words. (“Kiss my sorrybarb.”) Thus forever ensuring bkitty’s immortality in GWC lores.

I don’t remember exactly when this whole thing began.

Is there an echo in here? :stuck_out_tongue:

Hello… Hello… Hello… Hello… Hello…

Thanks for the enlightenment both of you!

Ah, one of the drawbacks of being in the antipodes is we can’t access Hulu as we are outside the states. Might check it out via other means however

Ah ha, that makes a lot more sense now - thank you

Just two great minds thinking alike! My very first attempt at multiquoting to try and pare down the number of copy and paste quotes people have to wade through.

Yay for more PhD students!!

Yes, or what you would term “grad students” I presume? Melbourne Uni is trying to bring that in but are meeting resistance!

From what I’ve seen in promos and clips etc., Chuck seems like it’s a pretty good show. I’ve also seen the actor who plays Chuck as the host on the 1/2 hour “NBC Fall season TV preview show” which he hosted kinda in character.
Here’s my concern: the character Chuck seems to be a pretty cardboard cutout stereotype of the smart nerdy computer geek. That kinda bothers me, because geeks come in all shapes and sizes and different personalities (as is reflected in GWC members). I hate it when Hollywood thinks they “know” what a geek is.

That really tells it all.

My name is Leah. Honestly.

On this week’s podcast Chuck, Sean and Audra asked the Forum to offer some suggestions for a Star Trek arc.
Am I crazy, or did we already discuss this in tremendous depth and detail?
I need help going back and finding the treads/posts, but there was a MegaTon of discussion about this a couple months ago.

Makes me think of the line for that Bob Dylan song:
“And here I sit so patiently
Waiting to find out what price
You have to pay to get out of
Going through all these things twice.”
(from Stuck Inside Of Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again)

I sense a GWCwiki in the near horizon… I can’t get no relief…

I can’t believe they didn’t catch the Zoolander reference…

I’m fine with ‘grad student’ but I have moments where I like to be precise - particularly since I already have an MA, I like to distinguish myself from the rabble  (I’m just kidding, they aren’t really rabble)

There’s a thread that is trying to consolidate the million and five suggestions that people have about Trek podcast arcs here - though there are lots of ideas that are scattered elsewhere, it’s by no means comprehensive at this point…

I sure do remember suggesting a fan-favorite Star Trek arc like…months and months ago. >_> =P

I for one am kinda looking forward to the next installment of “Audra’s Junk Report”.

I see your point, but I think it’s more true of Lester and Jeff than Chuck. Chuck is also pretty hot, which isn’t the “geek” stereotype.

For those who aren’t on the forum - quite a few people are podcast-only.

Okay, okay!! Sheesh! We does our best.

Good point. I hadn’t thot of that.

I wanted to say thank you to the GWC grew for having a nearly perfect Podcast #120. See the problems was it was about 5 minutes to short.

See I got to listen to it on my birthday which was awesome. IT was a great gift from the GWC crew.

Now heres the thing

I was listening to it while i was sitting in my car being pulled along by my dads truck. See I started playing the podcast just as we started the 90 mile (yes i got towed behind my dads truck for the better part of 2 hours) tow and the podcast finished just as we were 5 minutes away from the mechanic. I couldn’t find a new podcast to listen to because i had to kind of pay attention to the road…well more so the back of my dads truck which was approx 20 feet in front of me. I was forced to listen to he voices in my head for those last 5 minutes which is kinda scary.

So please please please the next time you feel like finishing. Just go on 5 minutes more.

Thanks you,

Birthday Boy Jason (well not anymore but its the thought that counts)

I’m totally hooked on the New Terminator TV show, the second sesion gets even better than the first. I can’t wait to see how this show fairs in todays market. one thing I’ve noticed is that Terminator Camron is much more like a person in the first ep, but in the following shows she’s much more like a Terminator. I see John falling in love with her over time.
