GWC Podcast #118

“Did anyone see two birds with funny names here? I must have the wrong thread.”

I know this is kind of silly but I have scene it a lot in our recent rewatches. There is a habit Hollywood has of showing people busting through walls to show off the strength of a character. when you look at what they break through it isn’t anything more than a couple sheets of drywall (probably some type of Styrofoam) and a hallow wall. Anyone could break through a wall like that without much trouble. Can’t they even try to make it look like a real wall.

I for one would love to hear a rant in a future podcast because I am sure Chuck and Sean fell my pain.

I’ve got to imagine you’re referring to the T2 scene in which Arnie smashes through that wall at Cyberdyne taking Sarah with him to escape that firefight. The thing is, in an office building like that one, the walls ARE two layers of drywall with metal stud framing. So unless the zoning in that area was insane and required brick walls in their office buildings, that one at least was true to reality.
Now, if we’re in an old mill, or a castle, or on a spacecraft, and we’re crashing through drywall…yes, we have a problem !!

Yes, this scene was definitely first on my list but I remember Trinity getting thrown through walls also. My problem is that there isn’t even metal studs there, it hollow of any vertical support. I give to you that that is commonly how commercial buildings are constricted but a place like Cyberdyne should be more concerned with security. Also, he broke into the clean room which should have much more elaborate considering the type if environmental controls they would have. There is also no electrical, plumbing or reinforcement considering that the vault is accessed through the clean room.

Maybe I am just hoping for a Clerks style rant about this but you can’t blame a guy for dreaming. It is also a good excuse to get the thread back to the subject of the podcast

Pod whut ?

Actually, the police baton is a karate weapon known as the tonfa. It’s used exactly as how Sarah depicted it, and you can use the hook bit to strangle the opponent.

The tonfa is a farming implement (as are all karate weapons) developed for self-defense in the karate syllabus. It’s basically a flail used for chaffing rice seed from the rice stalks.

How about a little equal opportunity?

In the spirit of decorum, I’ll withhold any mention of the erect feathers.

oops.

Great podcast as usual! Some random thoughts:

[li]TMZ must have GWC listeners: Linda Hamilton: 'Memba Her?!
[/li]
[li]The LA Storm Drains are the world’s most famous Gutter.
[/li]
[li]Maybe all the police with knee replacements were prototype Robocops?
[/li]
[li]Are you planning to get into the Terminator comics at all?
[/li]
[*]And last, but by no means least, the John Goodman Terminator:[/ul]

You know, if you change Goodman’s hair and beard to white, that could be a very good likeness to Chuck. But then again, you’ve gotten in trouble for doing things like that in the past, Poofy.

We dare not speak of such things. :stuck_out_tongue:

Linda Hamilton has a twin sister. During the Directors Cut you can see both of them. they cut in to Arnold Schwarzenegger as The Terminator head to pull out his chip and flip a switch so he can learn. Her twin was used to look in to mirror and see the same thing going on. There was also two other parts added. a part where the T-1000 kills the dog, and after he is frozen and blown up. It shows the T-1000 hurt, he sticks to stuff and can’t totally control his liquid. It’s some of the best parts.
