Y’er welcome
This reminds me of Walt Whitman revising parts of Leaves of Grass something like seventeen times from 1855-1885. The original “Song of Myself” is my favorite- so much lighter in spirit than the stuff after the war.
Gaeta’s Leg - AWEsome handle.
A new ex-lax promotional tagline?
Awwww yeah. And it is bs* that Chewie got hosed on the medalage.
On the whole “high maintenance” thing, I agree that it requires a common definition before debating. I think the guys and I were thinking of different things; I (and I think a lot of women) find the term demeaning unless it’s applied to someone who’s over-the-top needy and whiney. I tend to agree with casilda, Kappa, and Lady D on this one.
I know, ole Jabba really let himself go. Poor bastard.
Remove the lower horn!
I thought Sand People were the flying monkeys. (?) Glinda definitely is Obi Wan.
When did Chewie become a bottle blonde?
IYKWIM!!
Don’t frak with Lady D! I knew she’d have the scene ready.
Craaaap, it took me about an hour to read the whole thread and respond! ($&^# college poetry classes - I’ll never read more than two words a minute again.) All the while I was laughing out loud - the humor and brains you all bring to this community have long ago (in a galaxy ranger far, far away) surpassed us, the crew. I feel incredibly lucky just to be a part of it.
On the whole boobs thing, I never really did see what was so great about them (SORRY guys). I know they can be fabulous, but IMO that’s a rarity! It seems to me they are mainly an impediment to jogging and sleeping on your stomach.
Shouldn’t that be “Nantacket” for our purposes?
There was a young lady named Sackhoff…
I hesitate to start rehashing the issue, but I’ll agree that at the time, the idea of a strong woman character in TV and movies was a fairly novel concept, and that’s about all that I’ll say about that.
Which brings to mind another issue I thought of while listening to podcast (since my last bit of podcast commentary went over so swimmingly well ). As was mentioned in the podcast, most people basically ignore the droids around them, despite their obvious (to the audience, at least) intelligence and personalities. Thinking of them as tools and appliances seems to make that OK – who among us would even think twice about talking to someone without acknowledging the presence of the fridge or washing machine? On the other hand, it was (and still is, in some places) very common to have the same attitude toward slaves. Droids don’t even have the fleeting comfort of being considered 3/5 of a person. Even in TPM, the Federation droids “comically” seem to express fear at their impending destruction. C3P0 and R2D2 certainly have an individual consciousness and fear death. And yet droids callously have their memories “wiped” and get fitted with restraining bolts to limit their independence, before being discarded when they outlive their usefulness. So are they only tools or is that just a convenient notion to gloss over the fact they represent a galaxy-wide infrastructure built on slave labor?
I think that’s exactly the issue there. Men and women just do not see it in the same way. There’s nothing right or wrong about that in either case (IMO), but we’re definitely speaking a completely different language in this case.
Remove the lower horn!
Ouch.
(Speaking of which, I just watched Teeth the other night. It’s, um… interesting. If you don’t hate men going into it, you will by the time it’s over. Although this seems like a really impractical way of getting back at them, IMO. I wouldn’t go so far as to recommend it, but it’s a solid dark comedy/horror, if you’re into that sort of thing. End of line.)
Poofy never sleeps…
Some of us have to keep at least one eye open and a light saber in hand.
No, No that is not what I meant.
[QUOTE=GalaxyRanger;63035]Who gave the young Wookie a bucket …
I’ve reconsidered my position on completing the limerick:
Finding a hole in its bottom…
He tried to patch it…
But couldn’t, so said simply Sorry Barb it.
OK - now on to Haiku.
but its GR, and half of his posts contain IYKWIM
So are Luke and Anakin the only characters that truly treat droids respectfully? Han regularly insults 3PO and Leia even turned him off while he was talking (which seems kind of rude). Obi-Wan is nice to droids, but did appear to get somewhat impatient with R2 at times…
But that is what GR meant not me.
I can feel the Gutter is strong in you!
But we all have a little(lot) of gutter in us thats always subconsiously there
Life is like a gutter that glows through all of us. A boat carries us arross the gutter to and from this life.
So say we all.
A part of me swims in the gutter, but in truth I’m standing on the curb. The current never takes me down the drain.
So who am I in that metaphor? The guy who pees in the pool?
You are a leaf on the eddy; see how you’re sore.
Some peoples gutters just run deeper than others…
