Get a Job, GWC

Well I guess I’m the closest to you so far?

I run the shipping/receiving department for a industrial small parts supplier, we pretty much go into factories and get them all the small parts they need (screws, o-rings, rubber seals ect ect)

Since I started listening to GWC I have been:
-College Student
-Unemployed
-IT/Customer support/Web master for a small company
-Software Developer

Advertising Production Artist

Official title is Senior Financial Analyst, Treasury & Risk Management for a national real estate company (15 years with the company this May ).

Not at all where I thought I’d end up. I started out as a Chem major, ended up with a BA in English Lit. Then a few years later took two accounting classes when I had an opportunity to level up at the office, and the rest is history…or inertia, depending on your point of view. :stuck_out_tongue:

…if you know what I mean (abbreviations are so 2010)

Great topic. I don’t think it’s even been raised before. Nicely done.

Anyway, I’m an indentured servant chained to a cubicle with a glass ceiling. There are very few perks. My favorite, though, is being publicly flogged.

Is your boss Cavil?
“I say we flog him. Publicly.”

<< network Administrator

and i run my own computer repair shop.

Wow, I just thought, hmm I wonder if anyone has responded to my thread…3 pages worth!

It’s pretty much trending the way I thought it would, mostly Office Type workers, not that there’s anything wrong with that. :stuck_out_tongue:

It’s the same way with most of the nerds I know. (cept for one other Sheet Metal Worker that plays D&D that I have to avoid when I see him cause he is one of those let me tell you about my character type of nerds…ugh)

oh…my…

I work for the Federal government and the State of Illinois…as a taxpayer.

I’m a mechanical project engineer doing modifications at nuclear power plants for the last 11 years.

Also, PM me if you’re in the DC area and want to check out one of Armando’s awesome shows! They are way cool.

I like that, Fenatic. Since I started listening to GWC I have been:

-Recent graduate working for room and board by painting my mom’s house
-Kaplan SAT prep tutor
-Master’s program administrator at a crappy university (well, a name brand uni that was just awful to work for)
-unemployed
-Special Assistant to the Chief Operating Officer at a medium-sized nonprofit, where I did research and policy writing on foreclosure and affordable housing policy

Right now I am:
-Policy Analyst at a different medium-sized non-profit, where I lobby Congress and the federal government to advance policies that help low income folk build assets, save for a child’s education, run successful small businesses, and generally support their efforts to achieve financial security.

-Masked crime fighter by night

Both awesome, in different ways.

I just might have used some of your items in my career, if it is a big enough/local to my area supplier.

oh my company is a 5 billion dollar company all over the world, I’m at one of the small branches, I wouldn’t be surprised if you have!

Snap-on Tools?

I’m a Para-Educator (one-on-one aide to a Special Needs student) by day and a writer by night and a Mommy all day and night.

By day I’m a welder at an aircraft component repair station. This is my first aircraft shop, in addition to aerospace stuff I’ve built oil/gas drilling equipment, done pipe work in refineries and various industrial projects including a nuclear power plant. I also built skateparks for a while.

By night I fly internet spaceships and build custom bicycles.

There’s another welder at work who’s a hardcore gamer/nerd. I even got him to try Eve, but it was hard and he went back to WoW:(

This is what all Mommy/Teachers deserve, IMHO

Awesome!
Another GWCer what sticks metal to other metal!
Lots of TIG welding, if not all, being in an aircraft shop, I assume?

You a member of the AWS (American Welding Society)? I’ve been thinking about joining, but not sure if it’s worth the money.

You know, I think it’s funny that most welders I know also are big into Bikes and Cars and such, but I just never developed an interest in being a gearhead.
I’m a hobby welder too, but just projects that aren’t vehicle related.
Strange that.
