Well, here’s the catch:
William and Walter started the Cortexiphan trials at the beginning of the 1980s to raise an army to defend this universe from the other. But Walter took Peter from the other universe in 1985. Therefore they knew of it before, but it is unclear why they wanted to raise an army BEFORE Peter got taken, which resulted in the Fringe events in the alternate universe. Walternate got bitter only afterwards and wanted to get Peter back/destroy “our” universe.
When or even if did the “split” between these two universes occur??
