They wanted to sign him for a 5 year contract- not exclusivity, of course, but that he would be obligated to be available- and Paul Campbell stupidly decided that he didn’t want to be beholden to BSG as his career developed. They weren’t planning on killing him until the options were “sign this or leave the show.”
