It was similar to the world of Blade Runner, in that multiculturalism was endemic in society. In a sense, it was really meant to be a good thing.
Interesting what they say about wanting Kaylee to look like a real woman (and that Jewel Staite had to gain 20 pounds to do it), particularly when you see how skinny Eliza Dushku is in Dollhouse (in some of the scenes from yesterday her body looked like a child [I know part of the point of being a Doll but disturbing when you see her in the sexy bits])
