Farscape 1X20 The Hidden Memory - 9/18 @ 10PM ET

Dual-wield feat is awesome. d:

Scorpy needs to lose the shoulder pads.

Never ask a tech to do a warrior’s job. :frowning:

I love this slo-mo moment with Scorpius walking through the smoke.

They improve his costume significantly as time goes on.

“A male. Excellent.”

Rygel is so proud.

May their first child be a masculine child.

John Crichton. Kiss of Death. :stuck_out_tongue:

I learned that in ME2. d:

Lol!

Eh, I’d risk it.

rewound

Talyn looks bad sb.

Sounds like me wanting to meet Anna. Those teeth though… d:

Now I have to see whether I can get Amazon to take the set back after being opened. Doubt they will.

I haven’t heard of a DVD w/o subs since the 90s.

It’s pretty rare, although I stumble across them from time to time.

Usually it’s the cheaper productions.

These are from A&E though.

That link lists closed captions. I thought I had enabled it on my TV.

Trying to use it now with my cable box. Only the embedded captions from the cable box is showing. Not the TV’s.

It shouldn’t need your cable box at all. DVD is completely separate.

I know. I meant the cable box has it’s own CC system which I use because of it’s transparent background. The TV’s CC system leaves a black box.

This is my first time in years (2004?) that I’ve tried using the TV’s CC system. And, when it didn’t work, I (naturally) blamed the DVD. If I cannot troubleshoot the problem, I hope I won’t have to get a new TV.

Not looking good at first try. But, I’ll try more tomorrow.

Btw, when do you two want to reschedule Firestarter and schedule Taken?

No, I mean that the subtitles are on the DVD itself. They have nothing to do with the TV or the cable box. You should be able to access them on the DVD menu under Audio Options or Setup or something like that. Barring that, there should be a subtitle button on your DVD remote.

Btw, when do you two want to reschedule Firestarter and schedule Taken?

Next Thursday for Firestarter? We’ll have to see if that works for 'talos.

As far as Taken, I have no idea. It’s at least 7½ hours, without breaks. We might want to spread it out a bit.

Closed-captions and DVD subtitles are two separate things. Captions are embedded in the video (for NTSC at least). Subtitles are likely a separate file on DVD and Blu-rays. The Complete set lacks subtitles. The subtitle button/options do nothing. The “setup” menu on the DVD only has audio options.

Most of the world does not distinguish captions from subtitles. In the United States and Canada, these terms do have different meanings, however: “subtitles” assume the viewer can hear but cannot understand the language or accent, or the speech is not entirely clear, so they only transcribe dialogue and some on-screen text. “Captions” aim to describe to the deaf and hard of hearing all significant audio content—spoken dialogue and non-speech information such as the identity of speakers and, occasionally, their manner of speaking—along with music or sound effects using words or symbols.

For all types of NTSC programming, captions are “encoded” into Line 21 of the vertical blanking interval – a part of the TV picture that sits just above the visible portion and is usually unseen. For ATSC (digital television) programming, three streams are encoded in the video: two are backward compatible Line 21 captions, and the third is a set of up to 63 additional caption streams encoded in EIA-708 format.

It seems like my TV’s CC is malfunctioning atm. Or, I’m forgetting a step. I’ll look at the manual tomorrow.

Agreed on both counts. I forgot Taken was ten parts.

That is really strange. I have the same DVD set you have. I’ve watched on my computer mostly. The player I use is set to CC and the words display. It is odd that there is not a subtitle option on the menu.

I looked at the actual stream breakdown. There is one Video stream and two audio streams (5.1 and 2-channel) but there are no subtitle streams. CC must be built into the Video stream.

Weird. You should try on a computer with a player that supports CC. I just checked with my DVD player and HDTV. I enabled CC on both and the subtitles did not appear.

Agreed on both counts. I forgot Taken was ten parts.

Thursday. Firestarter. Check.

I’ll need to procure Taken. I no have it. Since no Sunday or Monday, the only time free is Saturday afternoon. I don’t think that would work for me, though.

I might have to watch on PC. I can’t get CC at all on my TV now. Dunno what’s wrong.

If push comes to shove, I can do Sunday. Isn’t Monday bad for you guys because of Chuck and Castle though?
