Dragon Age: Origins

I went with Steam for this game and it worked out pretty well, save one kink right after it finished downloading where I had to restart Steam before it would de-crypt it correctly.

That was Saturday and I’ve been playing every evening since and absolutely loving it. Actually spent the greater part of yesterday playing. The environments, characters, story and music are all gorgeous.

I’m in a bit of a lull now though. I really want some better armor coughdrakeskincough before starting the next big quest, so now I’m just running around doing sidequests to earn money/XP.

So far my only real complaint are the load times - Gods, they’re almost as bad as KOTOR II…almost. Anyone else having that problem?

I know I’m being extremely pedantic, but I wish they could have got someone in to proof read some of the dialogue. One example I’ve came across that particularly bothers me for some reason is the phrase ‘I feel badly’. Is there something wrong with your ability to feel? Certainly not a big deal, but that’s one of those phrases that really grinds my gears. At least they have used the word ‘Irregardless’ yet.

Irregardless is an awesome sounding word, not sure why, but there it is. Still, its one of those words that makes me want to correct people when they use it. I learned in middle school that people dont like to be corrected, unfortunately for me and for them.

It’s like, totally a side effect of the Joining. :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve restarted the game 3 times now. I finally got my strategy guide and I’m still making mistakes. At least this game has great replay value.

Can one of the moderators merge this thread into this one?

Agreed!!!. I made mine a couple weeks ago in the online gaming thread, and was a little surprised that there was not a lot more talk about this great game… Soooo, I smelled under my arm pits, just to make sure it was some stink keeping people away from my thread :p, when I noticed THIS thread.

In any case I need to get my rear back into Dragon Age. I’m actually thinking about going to grab the strat guide, not to help me beat the game. It’s just there are so many little things you can miss if you don’t make the right choice or have the right party members. Like this little nugget, I won’t give away any spoilers, so the following is not a spoiler-per se, but more like some friendly advice
Try to resist replacing Alistair in your party if possible. Things get interesting
Anyway my life has been spent playing Modern Warfare 2, Borderlands (with friends) and reading the new Star Wars Karen Traviss 501st Novel.

I hear ya, I think I’ll grab the strat guide soon. Like I said in the other thread there are to many things you can miss, like funny cut scenes, or major plot lines for some characters if you do not have them in your party.

I won’t give away any spoilers, so the following is not a spoiler-per se, but more like some friendly advice
try to resist replacing Alistair in your party if possible. That is all
I wonder if this is a sign of things to come for ME2. ME had a lot of re-playability but DA:O seems to be designed so you can play through at least 6 times (once for each Race/Class). Has anyone played (or heard) if there is much of a difference playing the same race/class but different sex?

This game is a lot like real life. I find myself adjusting my reactions to people depending on how much I want them to like me in a chance to hook up with them.
FYI-I have also discovered that I am a lesbian trapped in a man’s body. Just kidding, I already knew it.:p
aww but I just replaced Allister with Shale the Golem :frowning:

My copy finally arrived from amazon yesterday. Installed, set myself up on that bioware social page (my username is massefx for anyone who wants to be game buddies) and created my character. I started on hard with a Dalish Woods Elf, a rogue I hope to make a Bard. So far so good, the graphics are awesome, there are a ton of dialog options in each encounter and I like the combat system (especially since you can pause and give commands to each party member).Character creation is a HUGE improvement over ME, I imagine it will be similar or maybe improved on in ME2. Im only about 15mins into it so far but its darn good. Anyone play a woods elf or a rogue yet and got advice?

Yep, I know. Freaking guide spoiled a major plot point. Or, rather I spoiled myself looking for some other information like what gifts to give to whom.

I wouldn’t mind a thread merger, but I still think we need a DA:O spoiler thread. Since there’s already two threads, we can turn an existing thread into one.

From the official guide:
“Your race selection has a major impact on your origin story. Elves and dwarves have access to two unique origin stories; humans have access to one unique origin story, and they share the mage origin story with the elves. Race also affects how certain NPCs interact with you in the game.”

I didn’t put this in spoiler quotes since this is pretty easy info to come by. Right in the beginning of the character creation guide.

I’m fastcart on their. I’m playing warrior so no rogue help from me.

Although I’m playing as a human rogue, I’m just working on a pretty classic strategy and it seems to be working out alright. I spent the earlier parts of the game balancing my attributes, and then focused more and more on dexterity, especially after I got my Duelist specialization. I rely on tanks like Alistair or Dog (and now Shale!) to soak up damage while I hit stuff and a good mage like Wynne or Morrigan to keep me alive.

Alright, who knows a good mabari trainer? Also in the market for a dry cleaner, these gorram bloodstains are impossible to get out!

Head to camp and your gear will look just like new. Wynne prolly cleans them. Bless her.

I’m sad I no longer have time/desire to play this since Modern Warfare 2 came out =/

for me I’m sad I don’t have time to play MW2

played it for a bit today and all I could think about is “omg I have to finish the Dwarf area tonight!”

Okay, Orzammar is a piece of work. Expect a slog :. That was the longest - and toughest - of all the areas I’ve hit yet.

Also, gotta second that spoilers thread idea.

Or you could turn off that option (permanent gore?) in your settings?
