I don’t buy that 95% of the world’s population believes in a supreme being. Just considering the non-monotheistic societies of China and India alone would put that number around 60%, not to mention the massive numbers of atheists and agnostics in otherwise religious nations.

Nope, not even in the realm if the same. What they do selfless and wonderful but it isn’t the same as what they are suggesting. They are saying that you will go into a machine and it will send you 26 LY away with no known way to get back. They also assume that if they make it everyone else on Earth will age so if there was a way to make it back they would be dead. D-bag is old and his family would be grown, Ellie doesn’t love anyone. I am just saying that it makes perfect sense and what discovery would be worth losing your family over. I would also add to sacrifice yourself for another is more noble then for science.
