Buying my first Mac

Wait, you mean I can blame them every time I knock my Mac Book…er…uhm… I mean ever time my Mac Book tries to fly on its own with no help from me?? Coooooool

If only Apple made hardware half as good as their software… My Macbook Pro battery is dead, again. The first one died 4 months after my AppleCare expired, so I had to shell out $129.99 for a new one. Now, a year and a half or so later this one is dying. I follow all of their recommendations for battery care, too.

I’ve also had two sets of iPhone earbuds fall apart on me, and two Macbook Pro power adapters literally melt, right near the magnetic end.

I would recommend going with an iMac, if anything. My Macbook Pro has become a veritable money pit.

That’s about right for a laptop battery that gets daily use. Pretty good, in fact.

I have horrible luck with earbuds. I chalk it up to my habit of sleeping with them in, however. I’ve never had a problem with mac power adaptors. And I’m talking with literally decades of experience.

Maybe for a Mac battery, I guess. Or, maybe I was just spoiled by Dell. My old laptop (which I gave to my sister when I got my Macbook Pro) is now over 5 years old, and is still on its original battery. And, it still gets 2 hours or so per charge, which is amazing considering it only got 3 to 3 1/2 hours per charge when I bought it.

The original MagSafe 85W power adapters for the first-gen Macbook Pros had a design flaw, you can find tons of reports about it online:

Thank you to everyone who has helped me down this epic struggle. As of today I am the proud owner of an iMac 20 incher. I am busily importing all my photos and poking the thing with a stick to see what it can do.

I am rather pleased. At some point I’ll move my music over as well. For now, I am taking a phased approach here.

My two prior laptops (Sony Vaio and Averatec) only got 2.5-3 years of life out of their batteries too.

Congratulations! Welcome to the Dark Side…

Actually, that seems long, but I’m really hard on batteries (drain them daily) and I prefer small laptops, which obviously allows less room for error.

Congratulations! Welcome to the Dark Side…

Good news: We have cookies!

Bad news: You have to get them from GR.

Congrats, Solai! you’ve taken your first step into a larger world

I’ve worked with Macs on the job front but never had one grace my humble abode. Recently, the company decided to offer old inventory to employees. I purchased an iMac G5. Yippee for me!

Awesome! You are going to love the iMac. There is no comparison, you’ll never want to use a Windoze machine again.
