no worries. you’re an awesome Frakmaster
I try.
William was such a Momma’s boy, even the Vampire demon couldn’t turn it down.
damn, why couldn’t she have been this tough when Dawn was on the chopping block?
What I love about this is that it shows that Spike was never really the monster he pretended to be. Vampires in the Whedonverse are generally more like they were in life than the soulless monsters they appear to be. Which really makes one wonder how Angelus ended up the way he did.
I know Principle Wood is going for revenge, but revenge can make you stupid.
'twas funny, but I can’t take credit for it. Took that from a protest sign on True Blood.
“Well, that’s the rub, isn’t it? You didn’t sign up for it, and somehow it’s my fault.”
Spike knows the Slayer mentality so well.
Can a Slayer “Quit”?
yes, that’s what confuses me. seems that Angelus is a different entity, and Angel (or Liam) is absent–completely absent, not subsumed–when Angelus appears. doesn’t seem to be the case, though, when Angel’s soul is restored. Angelus is there, an observer. I haz a confusion
“I just wanted you to know that… before I kill you.”
Nice parallel with Angel trying to kill Wesley.
I like to think that it’s because Angelus was genuinely special. He was chosen — possibly even by The First Evil — to be a true champion of darkness. Only he could unleash Acathla. In fact, only he could want to. He’s a true believer in the power of evil, just as Angel is in the power of good.
and that’s why Angelus with a soul is Angel, not Liam? nice
“No, I think you’ve taught me everything I need to know.”
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the moment I truly learned to respect Buffy as a character.
That is a really nice description of the Angel/Angelus duality.
That she quietly closed the door and not threw him out the window is where I knew she had grown up.
That’s just it. I don’t think it’s a duality at all. I think that zealous nature is integral to who he is. As a human, Liam was the ultimate party boy. Had he never met Darla in that dark alley, he would have grown up drunkenly, fathering many illegitimate children before dying from cirrhosis or a bar fight (your choice). As a vampire, he was the epitome of evil, a monster who truly reveled in being a monster. As a vampire with a soul, he became obsessed with redemption, becoming a paladin of righteousness. In every case, he is what he thinks he’s “supposed” to be, but he turns it up to 11 each time.
So he is an Overachiever, never satisfied with what he has but always tries to be the epitamy of what he thinks he is.
Is that a good summation of your thesis?
