Whouldn’t the problem be from when Xander recusitated Buffy in Season One, and that brought about the Kendra and Faith line of slayers?

That was just resuscitation, not the unholy rending of the line between life and death. Willow used some very dark magic to accomplish that. There had to be consequences. 
Dawn is a lot smarter than she used to be.
But would a new slayer come on line if Buffy dies, or does Faith have to die for a new slayer to activate?
Faith would have to die. She’s technically the “active” slayer, after Buffy and Kendra died. After the events of the series finale, though, who knows?
I remember an old interview that answered this, although I can’t remember if it was Whedon or one of his minions. Buffy had her one replacement, Kendra, then Faith replaced Kendra. No more replacement slayers for Buffy, only for Faith. It’s why no one was “called up” after the end of season 5.
I figures that was the case, I’m just wondering which Buffy death gave the First the chance.
That was always my understanding. Buffy returning to life didn’t alter the line of succession. It’s like getting a new cell phone. Your old one will still call 911 because it was activated, even those it’s not technically “live”.
The season 6 resurrection. Willow used dark magic and altered the natural order of things. That gave The First its chance.
I would guess the one at the end of season 5 because of the level of magic required to bring her back…although it could have been that she’s died twice.
She also died when Warren shot her.
Almost died. Willow saved her before she had actually died.
I believe she flatlined briefly. That was enough to call Kendra in the first place.
