The citizens of Sunnydale are almost Lois-Lanian in their ability to ignore the obvious. There’s actually a throwaway line about people dying from “neck rupture” later in the series. 
Such light-hearted and humble beginning for the show. I liked it, but it’s a totally different vibe from from later Buffys or Angel.
BTW, I don’t understand how they explained away a bunch of dead teenagers.
he was in most, if not all of the 1st season episodes and plays an even bigger role in S2

Wow I was just going over Joss’ resume. The Buffy movie was his first written by. I did not know that. He worked on the screenplay for Toy Story and was a story editor for Roseanne.
But there’s got to be limit to that capacity! A handful of teenagers bitten to death, in front of two hundred witnesses, with matching corpses and corroborating puncture wounds on the neck. I mean, come on!
Oh, well. I guess it’s all the better that Sunnyvalians don’t realize what’s going on around them. Otherwise, they’d all move, and we’ll have no show.
