It’s very early. They were still fleshing it out. It gets much better, trust us.

Right now? Yeah, definitely. Although by season 2 or 3, Blade would have been a smoking pile at Buffy’s feet within seconds.

My guess is that Joss saw the show’s appeal and decided to expand the demo. But I wonder if Joss actually envisioned that the show will be such a popular culture hit when he first wrote for the very first episode.
to be fair, I didn’t see these 1st season episodes until I was completely taken in by the show. saw some S3 reruns on F/X while S6 was running on UPN. that was it–I was hooked
