I heard a sermon this evening about Original Sin. The priest kept saying, “Something is wrong with humanity. We all know it.” His point was that we weren’t meant to live like this. We were meant to live like Adam and Eve in the Garden. I kept saying in my head, “Isn’t this pain make us human? And God allows it.”

As Cavil says to Sharon, “Good. Remove the humanity.” I wonder.

The whole Garden of Eden story makes God look bad, IMO. Putting aside the notion that a loving god would punish billions for the mistakes of two people, how can you expect to create beings with no fear and no concept of morality and put a tree that can give them both right in front of them, knowing full well that they are innocent and curious enough to try its fruit eventually? That’s entrapment, in my book. Not to mention that he’s supposed to see all and know all, and yet he can’t prevent a simple snake from tempting his highest creations? And that’s disregarding the later idea that the snake was actually Satan in disguise, in which case one has to wonder why this loving and all-knowing god would then punish the snake and not Satan?
