Babylon 5 1x07 The War Prayer

I keep thinking of the Onion review of Star Trek:

“Where is the heavy handed message about tolerance?”

It matters what accent you have.

I’m beginning to think that 'Talos has Sean’s weakness for dangerous women!

Really? I kinda like 'em.

IIRC, the accent was supposedly the dialect of the old regime. Londo used it as an affectation of nobility.

Talos, have you got the Sean tick of “Women that can kill me make me hot?”

You think? I hadn’t noticed, but you might went to see my early comment on B5 acting.

Hulu had problems down loading an add to my Mac. HHHAAAAAA

I like that Vir doesn’t share Londo’s accent. It shows that these people come from planets rather than towns. That whole Star Trek concept of a center to visit when you get to a planet. I understand you need that for an hour long episode. But does it make sense? For example, if the Enterprise visited Earth where would the landing party beam down? USA, Russia, Europe?

I like the cultural differences on other worlds. I wish they would have done that in Trek. He’s a Klingon from this Island. They did it a little with the Bajorans.

Makes sense. But it seems strange that he’s the only one. Most of the actors seem to just use their own.

Funny, my Opera web browser & Adbloick in Firefox encounter the same problems.

Just thought the full page disclaimer Sorry we can not run this add was funny whatever you are using.

Lord Refa also uses the same accent, although we won’t see him for a while yet. My understanding is that Peter Jurasik (sp?) made up the accent himself, and the actor who played Refa decided to affect it as well.

Hivemind.

Actually it’s more like a brother and sister teasing. Chicks that want to kill me make me think of my sister. She tried to kill me everyday of our growing-up lives.

I don’t know. The small differences that loom so large to us would go unnoticed to aliens. And the reverse would be true. Once, while discussing two of my coworkers’ Yankee and Southern accents, a chinese coworker said he couldn’t tell the difference. All American’s sound the same to him.

Sounds right

Wouldn’t that be great, though? Aliens land in Papua, New Guinea, and determine how their world will deal with ours based just on that first contact?

Ahhh, family. I still think of killing my brother and sister …

Sorry, daydreaming again…

Apparently, she did a very poor job of it. Fortunately for us. :stuck_out_tongue:

Taught me how to take a punch. Let’s see, she has attacked me with a knife, baseball bat, candle stick, broken glass…well you get the point. I really learned how to defend myself. I never fought back, though. She was a girl and I didn’t/don’t hit girls.
