Anyone else see Black Swan?

I think I might have to give Toy Story 3 my film of the year, but just barely over Black Swan.

Scott Pilgrim was pretty decent though.

I’m not saying it was a bad movie, actually it’s quite good, just not top ten good.

Yeah. I didn’t dislike it, but it just wasn’t a great movie for me.

My favorite movie from 2010 (so far) was Deathly Hallows 1.

I lurve Miss Swan.

“Oh. It’s a Lee press-on nail.”

I thought Natalie Portman’s acting was just absolutely amazing in the movie, and utterly convincing.

I was disappointed by the fact, that like Sixth Sense, I “got” the underlying story immediately and so there was no surprise, I could tell exactly what road she was heading down, and knew that this could only end one way.

Also, I felt Aronofsky’s approach to Nina’s psychology was not as complicated and nuanced as it could have been:
It seemed like he went with a pretty straight Freudian view of female frigidity, which I find kind of disturbing in this day and age, and I would have like to see Nina’s story take a few more departures from the good girl/bad girl story of the ballet, and subvert the expectations rather than satisfy them. I think the best fairy tale adaptations take the story and turn it upside down or sideways, and this really did neither.
Despite my reservations, it’s still one of the better movies I’ve seen in recent years.

So Far I have seen,
Black Swan
the social network
inception
True Grit

so far Black Swan is the one that in my opinon as demonstrated “outstanding achievement”

I always try to differenciate between the movie I found most entertainning and the one that used the medium best to tell the story.

Black Swan should be awarded both picture AND Director as well as Actress.

imho

I have seen all 10 Best Picture nominees and I can say that only one of which I’d be furious if it won (The Kids Are All Right, if you care to know). Portman is a lock for Actress unless another Sean Penn moment happens and Annette Benning wins (in which a TV might be broken). Black Swan is an achievement in film as is Inception (it’s twisting but understandable plot), The Social Network (Making an engaging story about Facebook) and The Fighter (Making an engaging film where Christian Bale doesn’t growl) are achievements.

I haven’t seen Winters Bone yet but I agree with your sentiment

I’m probably going to be banished to the wilds, but I found scott pilgrim to be meh. I like comic book films (really i do) but SP was a 7/10 for me.

Need to see black swan but I have a feeling the camera work might be a bit much for me. Is it steady cam or is it more blair witch style?

I won’t banish you over SP. I haven’t actually had a chance to see it yet. :o

For Black Swan, most of it is “normal” camera work. Some scenes looked like handheld camera work, but nothing super-shaky, nothing like the cameraperson was running with the camera and swinging it all over the place. There were times where it seemed like they were playing around with zooming and panning and doing something to warp the picture a bit, but nothing that approached fun house mirror/motion-sickness/headache territory.

finger twitches

Step away from the ban button!

saw Black Swan Sunday, I like to wait a couple days before I make an official judgement on a movie so that I’m not caught up in the moment right afterwards

overall excellent movie, I can see why people are saying Portman should win best actress for this, she really pulled off the roll well

for those who like seeing Oscar favs right before or after be sure to check it out it’s worth it

plus there were only three other people in the theater when I saw it and they were all quiet so it was NICE for once to finally have a quiet pleasant experience after the movie started!
