ABC picks up Defying Gravity...

Is it bad I really liked it?

They need to ease up on slow motion a little but it was fun fluff, mixed with a great premise. I hope it lasts, seems like they could go to a lot of different places with it. I liked how the cast interacted. It isn’t BSG but really what is?

No! You are allowed to like whatever you like here! Besides, I liked it too. It has some great promise to it.

Forwhoever asked, yes that was Captain Kelly having zero grav sex! I was really excited as well when I saw him!

I listened to an interview with Ron Livingston from last week on a local radio station. He did mention the influence of BSG making this series possible or something like that. I was quite happy about that. I’ll see if I can find the link to the podcast interview when I get home.

Yeah it really is OK to like this show. And if we have learned anything from past cancellations, if this show continues to be good, then we need to be vocal about our support right away.

Alright, here is the interview with Ron Livingston about the show.

Well, that’s a point in its favor anyway. Good for him. I hope his character gets back on the ship after getting kicked off.

I was quite bored with this until they mentioned Beta. I wonder what Beta is; A.I., Alien being, Inter-dimensional thingy. I hope we find out soon what the mystery is, regarding what they were forbidden to tell the rest of the crew.

I saw the first episode and I really liked it. It’s got a good vibe and has added a truly sci-fi element of the “beta pod” (wikipedia). Very interesting and I’m a huge Ron Livingston fan. We Iowa boys gotta stick together.

I’m assuming it was on last night, I haven’t watched it yet.

But I have figured out what it is that I like about the setting of this one. We always get either movies like Apollo 13 & The Right Stuff, where we see NASA doing what they do best. Or, we see the after we’ve conquerored space travel thing. We never see the exploration. We never see how we got to the point that Space Flight is not only possible but common place. There is some really great drama in the exploration, & no one ever seems to tackle it.

Very true observation. I’ve always assumed it is because we have a hard time imagining the process of it all. I know that I do (though I’m not of a particularly scientific bent). Besides, if we could imaging the journey, then maybe we could actually, you know, do it.

I really enjoy this show. I agree with Talos that we need to know what Beta is sooner rather than later. I too am interested in the process, in watching how these people were chosen and what their drama is/was. Look at the real life drama with the woman astronaut who drove to FA to attack the new women in her ex-man’s life. These are “Real” people they’ll have drama. Can’t wait for the next episode.

great point I love how they choose the setting of the, well difficult but perfectly possible with current tech. the gravity is a cheat but beside that they could build and make this ship today with enough money.

really hoping this series lasts. fluff aside and yes the fluff can be fun too; its a great concept.

Has anyone else been watching Defying Gravity? What’s this Beta character/thing about?

until i get more info my theory is

Leeloo Dallas multipass.

mul-ti-pass

I’d tune back in for that.

I’m also enjoying this one. It looks like the creators have an endgame in mind, so I’m looking forward to seeing where we’re headed with all the varied thematic elements they’re throwing at us.

Two points on the astronauts’ apartment complex:

  1. The interiors look an awful lot like Starbuck’s back on Caprica…or was that on New Caprica?

  2. Donner’s is apartment 202. Zoë’s is number 302, which would make it directly upstairs. And right across the hall from Zoë is Nadia’s unit 304.

Very cozy…and convenient for Donner!

I think it’s a great show. Of course now I’m invested in the story and will live in fear that they’ll cancel it because most of the people who make TV shows are jackasses and are willing to sell out and program a crap reality show.

This week on BIG BREASTED TRAILER TRAMPS OF WALLAWALLA. Candy discovers that Randy not only lost his job at the rendering plant, but he’s been boiling their neighbor Bunny’s blubber for over two months now.

Oh craaap! I missed that episode. Did you tape it?

Actually I was listening to an intereview with Dave Coulier the other day. He is under the impression taht the reality indulgence is starting to die down. Mainly because they can’t make any money on the shows in syndication. After air market is where they are making big time bucks with both enw & old shows. Is anyone really gonna buy the first season of American Idol on DVD? No

your lips to gods ears… i mean there are a select few reality shows worth your time but the ones that are… are mostly in fact just documenataries. dressed up as reality programs to trick the masses… if there is a game or votes or challenges well i’m afraid it ain’t worth your time. end my reality TV rant

sorry but it just kills me that half of my continent watches celebrities dancing. while shows like kings die…

I’ve been watching this from the start with some interest, and I think the show is getting better. I have to say tonight’s (9/6) episode was really well done. I think this show is finally finding its voice, and its footing. Hopefully they can keep it up. Anybody else still watching?
