#270: Geek Nostalgia, Part 3

This was a great arc for obvious reasons. My parents aren’t really geeky (obsessive) the way we all are, but I have to thank them for being interested in all things geeky (especially Dad). I can’t count how many times there’s a movie, show or subject that when brought up by the crew I think back and if it wasn’t for them it may never have been part of my youth.

I am constantly blown away with how much Sean seems to remember from his youth. I remember being a huge He-man fan but without re-watching I can’t recall many specifics. When Sean brought up Castle Greyskull I had a joygasm remembering the good old days. I got one for Christmas of 85 and snapped a pic for the way back machine.

I also had a flashback during the Thundercat’s talk about the next Christmas.

Note the Thundercat’s PJ’s, Spiderman slippers and another favorite from my youth…Construx! I remeber loving there as much as Lego’s. Did anyone else have these?

Heh. When Chuck said “Talk to the hand” my first thought was, “Ned Stark?”

Great pics, Uchiha Daisuke. They remind me of similar pictures of me when I was a kid with my Star Wars toys. Your couch is also bringing back lots of memories. I think there was a time when about half of everyone I knew had a couch like that.

Not cool guys. Second week on the job and I’m laughing so hard I’m crying. Ok, maybe a little cool.

For the record, my nostalgia love is for the old Speed Racer TV series. And the 2008 movie didn’t really do it for me.

And like, Star Trek TOS, let’s be clear. I did not see Star Trek or Speed Racer in it’s original run. I’m old, not that old. I saw 'em in reruns in the 70s.

The Speed Racer movie just didnt’ connect with me.

But the TV series, oh yeah, that’s what me and my 8 and 9 year old friends would watch and “geek” out about. And we all had Matchbox and Hotwheels toy cars that we’d play with and pretend we were Speed Racer or Racer X or Slick Oiler.

So cool to know that Frakkintalos also played with Hotwheels.

Today I’m not even remotely a car guy, but as a kid…cuz of Speed Racer, sure that was what we did.

Oh and by the way, who picked Speed Racer for his FSL 2.0 driver character?
That would be me.

Dood. My friends an I built a Mach 5 go-cart complete with white paint and a duct taped “M”…and people tell me I’m not a car guy.

Damn! Why couldn’t we have lived in the same neighborhood when we were kids?

Word. I sure miss those days.
