What I’m saying is no human, throughout all time, has proven(PROVEN) the existence of a/many deity(s).
If you’re shaving your head, you’re cutting your hair, down to the scalp, perhaps, but still it’s essentially a haircut. Are you suggesting that baldness isn’t a hairstyle while buzzing your hair very short is? Atheists often say that they just believe in one less god than Christians. Baldness is much the same, IMO.
How do you know what every human throughout all time knew or didn’t know? The religious texts of the world document human beings having direct contact with gods. What makes that documentation unacceptable as evidence, other than your preconception that they are wrong? Not to mention that science only disproves what is false — what is true is a process of elimination of that which is false — so nothing can ever be truly proven (PROVEN).
Your just being obtuse for no reason
Interesting discussions on religion. While I have some sympathy for those that want to argue that atheism is another form of religion I just can’t get there with you. I can accept it as being classified as a world view along with other religions but not as a religion it’s self. Choosing to operate solely in the natural world and not the supernatural isn’t a religion. And in the natural world we can categorically state the things for which there is no verifiable evidence do not exist; hence god and sasquatches do not exist (however you always have to open to the possibility of new evidence). Who knows maybe the theists are correct but give today’s standards that would be like Copernicus including black holes into his heliocentric model of the solar system; they are a technically correct though unsupported at the time and unnecessary.
Thanks to Audra for her discussion of Calvanism. I now understand the theology behind The Family much better. It is a religious lobbying group that supports many evangelical politicians world wide. They recently got some notoriety for supporting some American politicians who have run into some moral scandals. Anyway they often deal with many wealthy people and dictators world wide because of their view that the rich and powerful by definition are those who have been chosen and favored by God.
While I tend to resist soapboxes I do have sympathy for the evangelical atheists because I see their fervor as largely defensive in a world that defaults to the religious. In fact most atheists I know are quite respectful in public. I am on the Brights email list and they recent had a discussion as to whether publicly denying the existence of spirits and ghosts was disrespectful to traditional non-Western religions. Atheist groups commonly get accused of being disrespectful to religion by simply expressing an atheistic philosophy, while the individual being publicly religious is rarely viewed as being offensive to the non-religious.
Are Flash Forward and Odyssey 5 true Time Travel stories?

Audra asked about Zork-like games and you guys mentioned Frotz.
If you get into these games, or are trying to, I’d suggest you check out The Interactive Fiction Competition. Last year was their 16th annual run and there are always at least a few (if not a ton) of good entries in all genres.
These are especially fun to play on a phone with a keyboard. I suspect a good interface on an iPad or other tablet would work as well. It’s great to just whip out the game when you’re in line or something and get a little further in the story.
Frotz runs a a whole lot of platforms. The iOS (iPhone/Touch/iPad) app can be found here (and it does work quite well.)
I wanted to weigh in on the discussion of religion, if I may. I have just converted to Pastafarianism. I heard about it a little while ago so I did a some research and it immediately spoke to me. The idea that the Flying Spaghetti Monster created the world and life as we know it is at least as plausible as some of the other religions/deities that people believe in (Mormons and Scientologists, I’m looking at you). I have been touched by His Noodly Appendages. You can be too. http://www.venganza.org/
I don’t know I can get behind the tenants of the Pastafarianism.
Wednesday, not Friday, should be the holy day (Wednesday being Prince Spaghetti Day “Anthony!!!” ).
And red wine goes much better with pasta than beer.
I’m gonna have to split off my out sect I guess.
What, like Couscousfucianism?

Well, I know I was a bit behind in my podcast listening, but wanted to post something I thought of while listening to the Time Travel arc.
One thing I didn’t hear mentioned, or see posted in between all the religious/anti-religion posts above, was how disease could impact things!
Its the whole War of the Worlds thing. If someone from today’s world went back into time, they might encounter a virus that has all but been eliminated in current time and have no immunity to it and get infected/die. Even worse of a paradox would be infecting THOSE people with with one of our super-bugs (think of the American Indians when English settlers came with Pox and other such diseases) and wipe out cultures before they advanced.
And all THAT damage is without even “doing anything” differently!
Time travel is a mess
But of course. Where do you think the Black Plague came from? Answer: a oxford university restroom circa 2026. One physics student doesn’t wash his hands before running the tachyon collider array and BOOM! Time traveling virus.
