My favorite animated show, Home Movies, did Season 1 in “squiggle-vision.” Everyone hated it. They switched for seasons 2-4. It was distracting as hell!
Home Movies was produced by the same guy as Dr. Katz and shared many of the same voice talents (Jon Benjamin!)
Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends is amazing. What a fun show!
I haven’t seen Home Movies, but ‘squiggle-vision’ worked well in Dr. Katz. A lot of it was simple back and forth dialog with plenty of awkward pauses. The vibrating outlines kept it from looking completely static.
Home Movies had more physical movement so the squiggling was more problematic. Here is some excellent Home Movies to whet your appetite (post-squigglevision):

It was awesome, like a modern sort of fairy tale kinda vibe that I dig. Also that old Victorian style house is my dream house!
